Search Engine Indexing and Crawling

Search engines are tools that search for certain keywords entered by users in their index. The process of building the index are done by sub-processes called crawling (or spidering) and indexing. Here are an overview of such processes and how are done.

When user enters keywords in the search engine, a list of results are found that best-matches the keywords of the user. These results are found based on a huge amount of pages stored in the database of the search engine. To be able to obtain such results, some processes must be done first to build the database which will be searched then when the user does the search. Mainly two basic sub-processes are done to build the database:

1. Crawling: In the crawling (also called spidering or robotics) process, the search engine begins to discover the web or the pages of the overall sites on the web. It performs this by beginning to download pages from some sites. Regularly, it will begin with some small sites stored in its database. When it crawls some initial site, it will observe the links in those sites. If the search engine discovered new link that is not stored in the initial database, it will append it to the list to be crawled later. In the new links discovered, it may also discover new links that will be appended also to the list of the sites that will be crawled soon. Note that as the sites are crawled, it will update its list of sites that are discovered to be new.

These processes are repeated continuously without stopping to discover the changing content on the web. Thus every new link is discovered will lead to crawling of this page and may lead to crawling the entire site. This is because when the spider crawl a page from a site, it will looks also for a links to other pages in the same site as well as links to external sites. Thus, it is important for website owners to build such links to get visibility to search engine. The more links they build, the more frequently their sites will be crawled and updated if it was indexed.

2. Indexing: once the search engine collects the pages from the sites crawled in the crawling process, it will feed them to the indexing algorithm. Mainly, the indexing algorithm compares or ranks the related pages with each other so that when users make search for a keyword, it will extract then the pages with the highest rank. Each search engine has its own algorithm for indexing and ranking. when ranked I will be put in the database with the specified rank.

On may imagine that only the keywords on the page controls the rank but recently there are a key factor that controls hat ranking which is the backlink. Mainly the concept of backlinks is related to voting and reachability keywords because an existent link to a page mean that the page is good for that site and this it effectively votes for it. Also the page will be reachable from that site. Recently, the search engines are concerned with the concept of reachability, they say that if one browse randomly through the sites on the web, what is the probability of reaching to certain site. This probability mean a higher ranking if it I high and the reverse is true. Thus we find that the ranking depends on the backlinks also.

3. Searching: once the database is built, the user can now search and the results are extracted from the search engine database.

White Laptop Reviews

Author: Matt Johnson

Laptop computers are very popular in this day and age; they are very convenient, easily carried wherever you go and can be purchased in a wide variety of colors. For a long time, laptop computers were only available in black. These days you can buy them in pretty much any colour you can imagine. But in this article, I want to focus on white laptop computers. In many people's opinion, a nice white laptop computer is on the top of their wish list as the best looking ones in the industry.

Many laptops that are called white are not truly white in color. They often, have just a touch of another colour that is barely noticeable, but, when they are placed next to a pure white laptop, the difference is evident and the white one stands out above the one next to it.

Currently, in late 2009, one of the best mid range, white laptops to consider is the Apple MacBook MC240LL/A. This laptop comes complete featuring white hinges and a white keyboard for a complete all white look to it. It's current processor is a 2.1GHz processor with 160 Gb of storage space. It isn't cheap (currently around $900) but Apple laptop computers are gaining in popularity and fast becoming a favourite in the industry.

Another white laptop that is good to consider for purchase is the Sony Vaio VGN-NS20E. It is stylish with a white keyboard, and has an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.16GHz processor with 259 Gb storage capacity. The current price on this one sits around $700 and is great for a mid range buy.

If you do not think you will need as much storage space, a good budget priced Samsung R510 with an Intel Celeron Dual Core T1700 1.83GHz and 160 Gb storage capacity is one to consider. This laptop is predominantly white, but unlike the two above does not come with a white keyboard. Depending on your preferences, this may not be enough white for you. The current price, though, sits around $550, making it one of the best buys on the market. If price is an issue for you, this one is definitely one to consider.

If you are looking for the best white laptop computer on the market, checking out the Apple MacBook Pro should be on the top of your priority list. The current price on this laptop sits at around $2000. It comes with Intel Core 2 Duo 2.8GHz processor and 320 Gb storage. It is a great buy for a professional who is looking for a white laptop that is at the top of functionality, as well as good looking.

Before you purchase a laptop, make sure you consider the Toshiba Satellite T135 Series with 1.3GHz Intel Pentium Ultra Low Voltage SU2700 Processor and 250 Gb of storage. Has a very reasonable price tag of around $620 should definitely be considered.

There are countless varieties of white laptop computers to choose from in this day and age. A little bit of research should help you find one that is suitable for both your budget and functional needs. Take a look around all the stores as well as the internet for the perfect white laptop to meet your needs.

Network Redundancy Techniques

When building a network, one must consider that the network is available all the time even if a failure occurred. Here is an illustration of network redundancy techniques and its drawbacks.

When building a network, some considerations must be taken from the point of view of availability. In the context of networks, availability means that the network must be operable during the whole day regardless of failures. Thus, some techniques must be taken to make the network available all the time.

In order to develop redundant network one must consider the possible failures that must occur during the network operation. These failures are categorized into two types: link failure and network device failures. In link failures, one cable connecting two computers or two any two devices such as routers or switches can be disconnected and make some of the network or all of it to be down. On the other end, device failure means that the network device itself is down which could be router, switch, or a hub.

First let us find how to overcome link failures. The solution in link failures is simpler than device failure because all we need to do is to provide multiple links between devices such that when a link is down, other link takes its role. This is simple of course but can lead to problems. This is because when there are more one link connecting the devices the data will find multiple links and the switch will forward the data to multiple links and the receiving end will receive the data more than one time. In addition, looping can occur because the data will be forwarded across the links forever. This will occur because there is more than one path to the destination and because the switch or the hub forwards the data to all ports.

The solution to looping is to use some protocols that block some ports on the switch and open others so that only one path is existed to the destination. This is achieved by what is called spanning tee protocol, which is available on Cisco switches. Notice that the concept of looping and STP are applied only to devices connected through a LAN and not to routers.

Second let us see the other type of failure which is device failure. This type occurs when a network device fails and thus is unable to forward the packets. The failure here can have a big impact on the network if it occurs in the core layer of the network which connects the whole network together. Therefore the solution is suggested to be applied at the core layer where two network devices are connected to the network to forward the data, one is the primary and the other is the secondary If one device fails, the secondary becomes available.

The above technique is configured on the router or the switch depending on what is used. Some protocols are developed to accomplish this function and are available on Cisco devices. When implementing it, one must connect the device at the core which must be redundant to the proper ports of other devices and connect similar device to the rest of the network in the same manner the primary device is connected. If the primary fails, this secondary takes it role

The 'Netbook' normally a smaller laptop is a sub notebook computer that is built to be lightweight and very portable, they usually aren't very powerful, but get the basic jobs done online and offline. The name 'netbook' of course came from the fact that they're primarily for accessing the internet, browsing websites and checking email. Netbooks usually have smaller storage space compared to their laptop counterparts, and many will have some variation of a Linux operating system installed. The netbook have become very popular for their portability, ease of use and very low cost. They have actually been around since about 1999, but haven't genuinely taken off in popularity until late 2007 with the various manufacturers introducing several models. Specifically the introduction of ASUS EEE PC was really when this type of netbook started to gain momentum in the marketplace, several other companies soon followed with their own variations. Netbooks commonly weigh in at more or less 1.5 to 3 pounds, which makes it really man-portable to journey with.

Benefits of a laptop and netbook

PORTABILITY

Portability is often the main leading edge advantage of selecting a laptop over a desktop computer. Portability means that a laptop can be used about anywhere, not only at home and the office, but also during commutations, in lecture halls, tea shops, libraries or in meeting rooms to assist with demonstrations.

You can use your time more efficiently with a laptop computer A laptop can be used in places where a desktop PC can't which means you can use your time more profitably. If you work from home then a laptop computer allows you to move your office outside on sunny days.

You can gain immediate access to information Having a laptop means having instant access to information, whether it's from saved files or from the Internet. Immediacy allows better collaboration between co-workers or students, as a laptop computer can be flipped open to find a solution anytime, anywhere. If you are in a gathering and have forgotten an important document you can simply access it from your laptop.

Laptop / netbook computers are little than standard PCs which is great when space is at a minimal. When not in use, a laptop / netbook can be closed and put away in a small space unlike standard PCs that tend to dominate a large proportion of space.

LOW POWER CONSUMPTION

A laptop / netbook computer is power-efficient. This is beneficial for businesses which run hundreds of personal computers, multiplying the potential savings and homes where there is a computer working constantly. You could even save money on your electricity bill if you choose a laptop computer over a desktop PC.

BATTERY POWER

A fully charged laptop / netbook computer can run for several hours off its inner battery. This is useful for journeys but is also convenient if there's a power outage and you yet need to get work done. Laptops / netbooks are great investments for business, home and amusement.

Understanding TCP/IP internet protocol

Internet Protocol is the core of the forwarding process of the data on the internet. In order to understand how the internet devices forward the data you must understand the TCP/IP protocol. Here is an explanation of how they work.

To understand the internet protocol you must first understand what the internet is. Mainly the internet is composed of groups of computers, each group may be represented by a street or a zone and theses groups are connected together through devices called gateways. When one computer in a zone wants to send data to another computer, it may be in the same zone or another zone and this computer may be a regular host or a server.

The device that connects these zones is called gateways or routers and the methods that they follow to send the data are called protocols. Each gateway may be configured to use a certain protocol but it must be the same among all the zones in order for work properly.

The internet uses what are called TCP/IP between these zones in order to send the data. The IP protocol is used to deliver the packet between the source and the destination based on IP addresses which is defined within the protocol. The ip addresses are 32 bits long and are separated in two parts: one part defines the zone or the area within which the host rely, and the other part defines the host itself. This corresponds to street identification where we must identify the street name and the number of the house. The street name corresponds to the network address and the house number corresponds to the computer address.

Once the IP addresses are defined the gateways can use these addresses to forward the packets between the gateways until they arrive to the destination. Recall that these gateways are like airports which are used to travel between countries and the zones on the network correspond to these countries, so when the data travel between different zones they must first go to the gateways in order to be forwarded.

There are many protocols that can be used to forward the packet based on the IP addresses but they all share the same function. Some common names are RIP, OSPF, and IS-IS. Each one has its own characteristics from the point of view scalability, convergence, and memory size. When the packet arrives to the router, it checks the IP address and forwards it on a specific port depending on the address. Each packet may be forwarded to multiple ports but protocol chooses the best port. This process is repeated on each router while the packet is in its way to the destination.

Mobile Phones - Devices For Freedom or Amulets of Slavery?

Author: Clare Mann

Mobile phones undoubtedly increase our capacity to work more effectively, communicate quickly and enjoy the freedom of responding quickly to personal and professional demands. They are often life-saving as emergency calls quickly alert necessary assistance. Personal electronic devices with more sophisticated visual capacities have further increased our hunger for social interaction, networking and connection. However, what are the negative costs of owning a mobile phone or personal electronic devices?

The answer to this question results in a list of immediately apparent problems, and some more covert challenges which interfere with our capacity to focus and choose in the direction of our dreams. This might seem dramatic so let's outline some of the negative results of mobile phones and then explore more covert challenges. The limitation include:

* Being interrupted 24/7

* Extension of the 9 - 5 working day

* Chastisement by others of being unavailable

* Reduced importance of time-related commitments since excuses are easily communicated

* Avoidance of resolving any conflict of cancelling events by text messaging rather than direct communication

* Increased encroachment of work into personal time

* Decreased tolerance of waiting for information when previously letters would have sufficed

* Immediate conditioned responses to text messages and phone calls, thus interfering with our capacity to be present and attentive to tasks at hand or other people

The list is not exhaustive but clearly mobile phones, if not used wisely, result in overwhelm, interference and guilt at not being available (when we no longer has an excuse). Thus, is the mobile phone a key to freedom or merely an amulet of slavery? Slavery in this instance being the relinquishing of our ability to choose to be present and mindful of what we are doing, instead constantly flitting from one demand to another?

There is also an additional hidden challenge of the mobile phone and more sophisticated hand held devices which equally demand our availability 24/7. It is more existential in nature and relates to the subtle relinquishing of our responsibility for directing our energies in the direction of our dreams. Before the mobile phone, an individual left their home, with a plan of action. (Forgive the generalised example which is for which is for the purpose of argument). Focus was necessary, prior to leaving, to ensure adequate preparation as the individual knew there was no leeway to immediately change plans or obtain associated information since they could not communicate 'on the fly'. With the capacity to change plans quickly or call to immediately access information or materials, the individual no longer has to focus and be mindful at any one instance. They can postpone deciding fully in a focused manner before they set out. It is the potential for 'postponement' that gives rise to the potential limitation. Whilst this might enhance flexibility, it also has the capacity to dissociate the individual from the direction of their efforts. Instead of focusing and meaningfully choosing actions, they become a puppet whose strings are jerked continually by the demand of others. This might even masquerade as reflecting one's indispensability or false sense of being needed. Over time, this dissociation and constant reacting to external demands, lowers the individual's capacity to be present and mindful and reflective at all of what they are doing.

We could argue that we have choice. No-one forces anyone to be available 24/7. Indeed this is true but social and cultural myths impose on the individual to such an extent that their choices are often reduced to 'being available' or suffering the consequences of alienation and segregation as others become irritated at their non-availability. This is not as dramatic as it might seem. Anyone who has the strength to challenge owning a mobile phone, will bear testimony to the social ostracism that results and criticism of being naïve or Luddite.

In the modern world of increasing stress and overwhelm, one's capacity to respond to others' demands for immediate gratification is exacerbated by the potential anxiety that results by resisting it. Maybe it's time to challenge just how much communication is really occurring with increased mobile phone usage. By acknowledging the socio-technical nature of our productive activities, we open up the pathway to integrating both social and technical considerations of a productive society.

2. memory: the is an important part because something must be available to store the information while processing. when you add two numbers, you must remember some numbers in between to complete the task successfully. the same is true for computer and it store the data at what is called RAM while processing. this data are stored while processing only then removed or replaced with more recent data. the other type of memory is ROM which is used to store data not for processing but in the long term for reservation with the data. this is corresponding to the data that we deserve since childhood.
3. input devices: this is an important part because it enable us to enter data into the computer. suppose you want to add numbers how would you enter the numbers for the processor to add them. the solution is to use some input devices that includes keyboards and mouses.
4. output devices: you use them to see the result. when adding two numbers you wait for seeing the result and you see it on the monitor. the processor takes the result and put it on the monito cart line in order to be displayed.

Top 5 Common Computer Problems and Solutions

If you own a computer, then you have probably encountered these computer problems before. Once you buy a computer, you must accept that sooner or later it will eventually crash due to a virus or some other massive error. If someone told you that your computer will last more than a decade, don’t believe it because it is just a myth or another sales pitch. But of course, you should take care of it if you want it to last for its third year without any defects.

However, there are many people that would prefer to buy a new computer than spend some time trying to fix or figure out the problem with their laptop or desktop. Usually after the first two years, you will need some kind of maintenance because your computer will tend to lose its original speed and performance. Well, here are some if the common problems that a computer user usually experience.

You may ask why your computer has problems. To tell you frankly, most of the time the biggest problem that your computer has is YOU – the owner or the user. HDMI Switch: Switch video with the latest in HDMI technology

A HDMI Switch is used in situations where there are too many HDMI devices and not enough ports on the HDTV to connect them. The input devices like computers, DVD players and set top boxes are connected to the input ports on the switcher which is then connected to the display using a single HDMI to HDMI cable. No complex procedures are needed to switch between the various sources. These devices maintain high resolution audio and video signals.

In order to view up to four HDMI compatible source devices to be switched easily into four HDTV compatible monitors or projectors, the HDMI matrix switch can be used. The HDMI Switcher is small and can be controlled via an infrared remote control, RS232 control or the push buttons provided in front of the unit. With the help of these control devices, a user can easily switch between various HDMI sources. The LED on the front indicates the source which has been selected. These switches support resolutions of 480p, 720p, 1080i and 1080p and are compatible with all HDMI and HDCP compliant devices. These devices are also FCC CE Certified and RoHS compliant.

They are available with plug and play functionality and can be cascaded for larger distribution. This type of Video Switcher device is available in several sizes such as the 2x1 switch, 3x1 switch, 4x1 switch, 5x1 switch and the 3x2, 2x2, 4x2 HDMI matrix switches. By using this switch, a user no longer has to disconnect and reconnect multiple HDMI sources resulting in less hassle. These switches are backward compatible with DVI-D and follow a standard of extremely high speed digital transmission. They support resolutions up to 1920 x 1200 and have a built in repeater/equalizer chipset which can boost digital HD signal length. The HDMI Switch is used for remote monitoring purposes as well as in conference rooms, educational institutions, control and data centers, training facilities and in other similar applications.

How to Prepare a Network For IP QoS

In order to make sure that the requirements for the transmission of the application are attainable by efficient use of obtainable bandwidth, the system and support tools require the successful implementation. A management workshop will be arranged so that the specific needs for transmission can be established. Sometimes a survey may be suggested as a pre-cursor to use on the usage of the existing bandwidth to allow a gap analysis with the present understanding. When you are busy with a workshop like this one, the company that is assisting you will give you advice on how to use the appropriate toolsets and also what to do with the implementation issues.

As long as the agreement is met, the tools will then be able to be installed and checked to see if they meet the objectives of management, as well as with the other reporting systems as well. When it comes to the key service aspects, the main things one should look at are the structured approach to how skill levels, tools and processes can be used together in order to obtain more control of the IP prioritisation and the bandwidth.

A technical assistant should be assigned to help after the support tools are implemented. Help and advice should also be given when it comes to the definition of objectives with clear principles on maintenance requirements, costs, implementation and system sizing. IP QoS systems that are fully installed are combined to bring you the benefits of business in totally defined timescales.

However, more effectual management of IP QoS is required in order to bring you the highest levels of reliability that is needed to make your business a success. In order to make this happen you will need implementation services as well as professional advice to make sure that the systems are successful in your business environment.

The company you use should be able to take ownership and make sure that the appropriate systems are used and knowledge and technical resources are advanced, instead of being drained by compound management tools. It is important that whoever is doing this for you knows what they are doing and is going to make a success of the project.

Once you have found the perfect company you are going to use you should contact them immediately and get your projects going. The sooner you start the better, as then you will be able to determine whether you have made the right choice by deciding to use these people. You have to be comfortable with the company you are using; otherwise, the whole procedure is not going to be pleasant. They will show you how to prepare your network for IP QoS as they are trained to do such things, meaning that they should have no problem at all. They will also answer any questions you might have, so don't be afraid to ask.

Preparing a network is not always an easy task. It takes time and patience. It cannot be done in a few minutes, so don't expect it to.

How Do I Use Cat-5 Cabling?

For those who are unsure as to what a Cat-5 cable is, it is a cable that is a twisted pair high signal integrity cable that is often referred to as a Cat5. There are many of these cables that are shielded but there are also some that are unshielded. The Category 5 cables have been out dated by the standard specifications of structured cabling for certain computer networks like Ethernet, and it is sometimes also used for other signals like ATM, voice services and token ring (the local area network technology). The Category 5 cable's specifications were distinct in the ANSI/EIA-568-A/TIA, with other explanations in the TSB-95's.

The category 5 cable is made up of twisted pairs that are in one cable jacket. When balanced lines are used, it helps to protect a high signal-to-noise ratio in spite of the interference from other sources, including both external ones as well as other common pairs. It is used for many networks, but the most common one it is used for is the 100 Mbits networks, like the 100BASE-TX Ethernet, even though IEEE 802.3ab can define the standards for the 1000BASE-T-Gigabit Ethernet over the category 5 cables. These cables normally have three twists per inch of every twisted part of 24 gauge or American Wire Gauge (AWG).

If you are looking for something that offers a little more than the Cat-5, there is the Category 5e which is an enhanced version. The 5e version adds certain specifications that specifically target the far end crosstalk. By 2001, the 5e was known as the TIA/EIA-568-B standard, but it is no longer recognised as the original cat-5 anymore. People now know it as the Cat 5e and nothing else. Even though the 1000BASE-T was originally designed to be used with only the Cat 5 cable, the more prominent specifications of the Cat 5e cable and its connectors make it perfect for when you are looking for something to fit with the 1000BASE-T.

Unlike many other cables, the Cat 5e doesn't have the option of longer cable distances, especially for the Ethernet networks. Most cables still have the 100 meter limit to them. There is no way that you could use a cable longer than this.

Cat-5 cabling is the future, and many people will agree. You don't have to use other cables that don't do half the job a category 5 will do. There is no need for that anymore. Now you can get straight to the point with these cables. Cat-5 cabling is there when you need it. It provides you with options that not many other cables are able to do.

The cables are available in both solid conductor and stranded forms. The solid cable is not as expensive as its alternative and it provides more reliable connections with the insulation displacement connectors. With the stranded form of cable you will find that it is more flexible and it is also able to endure more bending and other movements without it breaking. It also offers reliable connections, but more so with other insulation piercing connectors.

Whether you are buying preassembled PC or want to assemble your own, it is important to know the components and its functions so you can have a basis of your decision.

The most important part of the computer is the CPU. It is considered the brain of the computer. It is responsible for the overall speed whenever it is processing any task.

There are two manufacturers who have dominated the market in producing processors. They are the AMD and Intel. Intel's most popular processors include the Pentium based and Celeron. Meanwhile, the AMD's flagship is the Athlon and Sempron based processors. AMD processors are generally cheaper than Intel's.

The motherboard is the device where all the parts and devices are attached. Some motherboard comes with onboard components which include video card, sound card, LAN card and modem. It is also important to consider what devices you are going to attach to the ports of the motherboard, and buy accordingly.

The RAM (random access memory) is the part responsible for the overall performance of the computer. The bigger the RAM, the faster the computer can process data. If you have enough budget, purchase the maximum RAM supported by your motherboard.

The video card is another important component. The quality of the image is due to the capacity of the video card. If you are into graphics designing and gaming, it is best to choose the highest memory of video card 3D capable. The high quality video card is also advisable to those who are fond of watching movies in their computer.

The hard drive is the storage device where all programs and games are installed and all other files are stored. If you love to collect a lot of videos and graphics, it is best to choose the highest capacity of storage. It is measured in terms of gigabytes.

The sound card is the part which processes audio signals going to the speaker. If you are going to connect your computer to a 5.1 speaker, then you should choose the best sound card capable of producing a surround sound. This is important when playing a lot of music, watching videos or playing video games often.

The power supply is responsible in powering your computer. It should be able to supply the necessary power for all the components of the computer. Never use cheap types because it is prone to seriously damage any of the components of the computer if it malfunctions.

Also consider the bundled software which includes the operating system, productivity software, anti virus and many other useful applications. If you are going to use other software you need for your work, make sure that the computer is capable of running it without any problem. Consider the compatibility of your software versus the specifications of your computer unit.

Also, list down other devices you may want to include to complete your computer setup.

10 Things to Consider When Buying a New Printer For Your Home

Having a printer is a convenient and wonderful tool that provides the perfect accompaniment to your computer. You can get more use out of your computer and make it more functional overall when you have a home printer.

Like most things, your home printer will wear out after a lot of use and will need to be replaced. Things change quickly in the computer industry, so you can expect to find a wider range of choices and options in printers when you set out to buy a new one. To help you make your final decision here are 10 things to consider when buying a new printer for your home.

1) Will you be using this printer for all your printing needs? You need to know if you will be using your printer to handle printing documents, colour documents and photos or if you just need it to print documents. This will help you to figure out the type of printer you will need. It will also help you in deciding about the print speed and quality that you need in a printer.

2) You should also consider your overall needs. If you will be using the printer for various types of printing needs then you may want to look for a multifunctional printer. You can find printers that will not only print but also scan and copy documents.

3) You should consider the amount of use, too. You need to think about the average use. Will you be using it for light, occasional printing or will you be doing daily, heavy printing jobs? This is important because you will need to consider everything from the types of printing you do to how much you print so that you will buy a printer that can handle what you need.

4) Of course, you have to think about cost. Printer prices have actually came down quite a bit. You might be surprised at just how affordable even the top of the line printers are. You can get a very good printer for an affordable price.

5) Not only do you have to think about the upfront cost of the printer, but you need to take a look at the cost of the cartridges. In some cases a printer can actually cost less than the cartridges. You should always check out what type of cartridge the printer uses and check that price before you make your purchase.

6) Think about the brand name of the printer. You do not always need the top brand name, but you should still buy a brand name that you trust. You want to be able to rely on the brand and know that the company is known for producing high quality products.

7) Find reviews about the printer. Read them and use them as part of your considerations when buying a new printer. You cannot always go by everything you read in a review, but if multiple people seem to have the same opinion then it is probably true and something you should consider.

8) Ask people you know for recommendations about a good printer. You can usually trust your friends and relatives opinions. You can also ask questions and get advice on if the printer would work for you. This is something helpful when buying a printer.

9) Consider off brands. Even though you have already looked for good brand names, you might want to take a second look. You can find some very good lesser known brands that are comparable to the top priced brand names.

10) Lastly, consider where you will buy your new printer. You have a range of options and where you buy your printer can be a big influence on the final cost and your overall satisfaction with the purchase. You want to buy from a company that offers you great service and a good value. Many people go online to buy printers because the prices online tend to be lower than those in the stores.

These ten things to consider when buying a new printer will help guide you to the printer that is right for you. Take all these things into mind and you will most likely end up very pleased with your final decision.

Canon Printers

When Canon entered the computer printer scene with their BJC-210 model, the company probably expected great market results. It was really cheap (you could get it for around $30 at that time) and it could print in color which was a rarity in those days. But after spending some time in the market, the Canon BJC-210 turned out to be a problematic printer. Even the most patient of a user did not have the nerve to set it up. It did gain good sales though, and Canon decided to improve its ink jet printer line with better models that would yield better results.

Ever since then, Canon has been producing printers that are among the best printers worldwide. Though Canon exclusively produced ink jet printers, the company over time explored other printer possibilities. Check out these Canon Printers and see how Canon technology has been the staple printer technology over the years.

Canon imageCLASS Multifunction Series

Among Canon’s latest releases, the Canon imageCLASS Multifunction Series is also the latest innovation of computer printers. This Canon printer is an all-in-one printer: Color Laser Printer, Copier, Scanner and Fax. It is remarkably fast, it can print colored documents at 4 pages per minute, and it can print a monochrome document at 20 pages per minute. It holds 375 sheets and 50 on the automatic feeder. The clarity of its prints is an object of boasting: remarkable clarity with 1200 x 2400 dpi at 48-bit CCD technology.

Ink jet technology, though having the potential to be costly over time, does create fantastic prints. Since the unit sells way lower than laser technology units, ink jet printers make a definite choice for home choice or even personal business printing, especially if used in junction with Desktop Publisher.

PIXMA iP90 Canon Printers

This Canon printer combines performance and portability. Surprisingly compact, it can produce quality prints at a definition of up to 4800 x 1200 ppp. Another nice addition is its capability to print direct from a digital camera or USB without computer access.

While consumers would balk at the idea of getting the laser printer model due to its price, they are the most money-wise printer goodies. They have a substantially lower cost-per-copy compared to printers that use different technology, like ink jet. While most consumers tend to shy away for its price, lately some models have been priced much lower due to more models being created.

So what would it be? Ink jet for consistent expenditures or a single lump sum for the Laser printer.

Laser Printers

Today, laser printers are regular kinds of computer printers that are used mainly as speedy providers of excellent quality graphics and text on paper. These utilize a xerographic process of printing in which an image gets produced when a laser beam is scanned straight on a printer's photoreceptor. What really happens is that the image of the page that needs to be printed is projected by a laser beam onto a selenium-coated revolving disc, which in turn is charged with electricity.

Charge from light-exposed regions is eliminated with the help of photoconductivity. Dry ink or toner particles are then taken up by the charged regions of the drum in an electrostatic procedure. And, this drum subsequently, prints the image of the text or graphics on paper by straight heat on contact that combines the ink onto the paper.

Laser printers have numerous crucial benefits as compared to other kinds of printers. As opposed to impact printers, the speed of laser ones can differ, and is based on loads of features. Laser printers' costs vary depending on prices of toner, paper, toner, and the occasional replacement of the drum, transfer and fuser assemblies. Frequently laser printers with smooth plastic drums can have extremely soaring costs of ownership that do not surface immediately till the drum needs to be replaced.

A duplex laser printer that prints on a paper's both sides, makes the price of paper half and brings down the volume of space required for filing papers. Earlier obtainable only on expensive printers, these duplex laser printers are office regulars today even on mid-range printing equipment. Though all laser printers can comply with duplexing units, these are not always desired, as these bring about a more sluggish speed of printing a page, given the longer path of paper.

While majority of inkjet and dot-matrix printers merely get hold of an inward bound flow of information and straight forward print them in a measured wobbling method that might come with frequent breaks, the non-laser printer has to linger for further information. On the other hand, a laser printer is not capable of acting in this process as such a huge volume of information requires to be taken to the printing gadget in a fast, unbroken method. Laser printers cannot halt the system quite enough to delay till the arrival of further information, without producing a noticeable misalignment or breaks of the dots on the page that is printed.

In its place, the image information is made up and saved in a huge memory bank that is able to stand for each dot on the paper. The need to save each and every dot prior to the process of printing has conventionally relegated laser printers to relatively smaller set sizes of paper. Majority of laser printers are incapable of printing unbroken banners cross a paper or sheet, as there is never enough memory obtainable in the printer to save such a huge picture or piece of information prior to the start of the printing process. Laser printing involves seven stages, namely raster image processing, charging, exposing, developing, transferring, fusing, and cleaning.

Know About the Inkjet Computer Printers

A computer system contains number of parts associated with it and printer is one of those various parts. Data that we stored in our computer in the form of files and programs can be taken out as printed paper with the help of printers. Here in this article, let's talk about the inkjet printer, but first of all, read some brief information on what the printers are?

A computer printer is a device that is connected to the computer for producing a human-readable copy of the data that has been stored in the computer memory in the electronic form. Now-a-days, printers are directly connectible to the scanner, video cameras and memory card of the computer.

Printers are of several types, there are laser printers that use lasers to print out the data. They are used for high quality print outs. Inkless printers use colorless color crystals in the process where pen based printers work on the piece of paper with special kind of pen. An inkjet printer is the computer printer that produces a very little amount of ink on the paper. The ink droplets contain an electric charge and when it comes in contact with the paper, droplets are identified with the cathode and electrode charge. Inkjet printer is the most commonly used printer as it produces high quality print outs in the cheap price.

Normally, all modern inkjet printers are able to produce colored photo print outs as well. It's cost is lesser than that of other good quality graphic and text printers. They are quieter than other noise creating printers. They print with high resolution and thus, give smooth and clear print outs. Unlike other modern printers, inkjet printers need not to warm up before starting work on it. That is why the cost of per copy print by inkjet printer is comparatively very lower than other printers. Now-a-days, inkjet printer is using a new technology of FM screening that further increases the quality of printing. Ink cartridges can be refilled quite easily that is sometimes a problem with other printers.

Now, along with so many advantages, inkjet printers have some disadvantages also. Like some particular ink for the inkjet printer might be very costly sometimes. Those inkjet printers that use liquid inks can produce the low-life prints. With time, the liquid ink gets faded or the colors may get changed. Water can destroy the inkjet printer prints as a single drop of water can damage the entire format. These are some of the disadvantages of inkjet printers that have been discovered till now but this is also an obvious fact that these disadvantages stand nowhere if one talks about the usefulness of inkjet printers. This is the reason why inkjet printer is used on a large scale.

The Truth About Computer Printers and Ink Cartridges

Today's printers are heads and shoulders above their predecessors. Inkjet printers can produce stunning, photographic quality prints, while laser printers can spit out paper at a rate of 85 pages per minute or more. In fact, there are so many different kinds of printers on the market that's it's sometimes hard to keep track of them all. Here's a rundown of the major categories:

Color Inkjet Printers: While slower than laser printers, color inkjet printers are also a fraction of the price of a color laser printer. Inkjets can produce exquisite color documents and photos, as well as black and white prints.

Color LaserJet Printers: While more costly than color inkjet printers, laser printers are still a bargain, and often come with several paper trays to give you maximum printing flexibility.

Multifunction Printers: The latest trend is multifunction printers, which allow you to scan, copy, fax, and print with a single piece of equipment. This saves space, money, and time.

Photo Printers: Specialty photo printers give shutterbugs another great reason to snap pictures. These peripherals often allow you to print directly from your computer, digital camera, or mobile device.

Black and White Laser Printers: If you don't work with color, black and white lasers have never been more affordable. The emphasis is on speed, high print resolution, and multiple paper trays.

Mobile Printers: Mobile printers are gaining popularity among students and business people on the go. While they're slower than other types of printers, mobile printers have the advantage of printing from numerous sources and often have wireless connectivity capabilities.

What Manufacturers Don't Tell You

If you haven't browsed the printer aisle of your local office supply store recently, you'll be shocked to learn that you can buy high quality, brand name printers for as little as £38. Sound too good to be true? Well, in a sense, it is too good to be true. While the price of the printer is lower than the cost of manufacturing it, ink cartridges can cost as much or more than the purchase price. In other words, the manufacturers don't make money on the printers; they make money from the ink. It's as though every time you buy inkjet cartridges or toner cartridges, you're purchasing your printer all over again.

How do printer manufacturers get away with it? Most often by using scare tactics. They convince consumers that the only reliable printer cartridges are those made by the printer manufacturer. In fact, nothing could be further from the truth.

Alternatives to OEM Ink Cartridges

If you don't want to buy expensive original equipment manufacturer (OEM) ink cartridges, what are your options? There are two choices: Compatible print cartridges and remanufactured ink cartridges. Compatible cartridges are made from brand new parts and meet or exceed OEM standards, but are a fraction of the price. Buying compatible cartridges is similar to buying a store brand of peaches, rather than a name brand.

Remanufactured cartridges are recycled cartridges that are taken apart, inspected, reassembled, and filled with high quality ink. These are even less expensive than compatible print cartridges.

It the world of printing, you can have your cake and eat it too, simply by taking advantage of low printer prices and pairing them with inexpensive compatible or remanufactured ink cartridges.

However, the only disadvantage is that the printing time would take longer. It is because such kind of printers uses variably-sized droplets of ink that is propelled onto the paper or various print media. This printing process takes time to perform the printing of the material. The advantage of using these printers aside from cheaper price is that they are capable of printing colored documents such as photos and with a glossy finish.

Thermal Printer

This is very common among department stores and malls. Thermal printer are convenient to be used by cashiers because it allows the calculations and giving the print out at the same time in fast manner. Fax machines also have this kind of technology. This, however, works only on papers that are heat sensitive. It operates by having the heated pins pushed against the medium.

Dot-matrix Printer

Of all the printer types, this is the oldest type. Inspired from typewriter, this printer operates by having its pin strike against the ink ribbon. The print out from dot matrix is easily recognized because of the obvious lines and dots that you can see on the image or character it prints; hence it is called dot-matrix. Despite its obsolescence, dot-matrix printer is still used by some business establishments because its mechanical pressure enables the producing of carbon and carbon-less copies.
